The scientific image viewer

What is it?

CImgExplorer is a viewer for scientific intensity images. It shows intensity images as false-colour images, displays the value below the cursor, and allows zooming and selections. The histogram is shown and the false-colour scale may be tweaked to best view the required features. Automatic histogram optimisation is possible, basic analysis filters like intensity conversion of multichannel images and Gaussian mean filter are available.

Opens most standard formats (Tiff, PNG, Jpeg, ...) as well as digital camera Raw files (if supported by dcraw and dcraw is installed). Image files can be dropped on the main window.

Histogram features:

set histogram resolution (leads to new calculation of the histogram)
median filter of the histogram (button on top right)
fit Gaussian: fit a Gaussian into the histogram, with the start value for the centre at the highest peak of the histogram
intensity scale adjustment: adjust intensity space (range of the false colour scale) to (1) n standard deviations around the centre of the fitted Gaussian or (2) to the range beginning from the centre expanding to both sides until the histogram count drops below the fraction f of the peak value of the fitted Gaussian
adjust the axes of the histogram display (double click on the axes to open the axis range dialog, or adjust the "Count max" spinbox for the pixel count axis)

Analysis features:

select sub-regions of the image
draw line profiles, also with horizontal or vertical average
show statistics of image or selections
export false-colour image and corresponding colour scale (image will be bitmap image, e.g. PNG/TIFF, scale will be PDF)
view different Bayer channels in separate views

Filter features:

median filter
Gaussian mean filter
differentiate
arithmetic (add to, subtract from or devide by another image, square root)
Bayer pattern downsampling
transform multichannel images to intensity images
rotation

Required libraries:

Qt GUI toolkit (version 4)
Qwt widgets (version 5)
CImg template image library A matching version of the library is included in the cimgexplorer source.

Optional libraries and software:

For image reading:
- GDAL (used automaticaly if found), or
- Image libraries:
  - libTiff
  - libJpeg
  - libPNG
GNU scientific library (for histogram fitting)
dcraw (for reading camera Raw files)

The software has been tested with gcc on Linux and with Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 on Windows. It uses cmake.

To do

Restrict selections to image area. Scroll when selection is made and the cursor is moved outside the view widget.
